Camberwell Housing Society choose asra

2017 - January, Latest news

asra Housing Group has grown its stock portfolio, following Camberwell Housing Society’s amalgamation into the group.

Following tenant consultation and board approval, Camberwell Housing Society has transferred its 65 homes to asra. The decision by Camberwell to merge was driven by a desire to safeguard the tenancies of its residents, all of whom are over the age of 55.

A local presence for tenant contact will be maintained by asra.

John Guttridge, chairman of Camberwell Housing Society, said:

“The society has provided both security and comfort for our residents, at both Troy Town Flats and Dorothy Charrington House, for some 60 years.  In a review of the future, our voluntary Board, concluded that in today’s world the Society needed to be run by a full time management team with access to a range of specialist disciplines. Accordingly, we instigated a two-year search for an organisation that would take the Society forward whilst maintaining the family atmosphere.

After intensive discussion and consultation we were delighted when asra produced proposals that fully met both our aims and the desires of our tenants. Indeed, tenants started to feel the benefits of the enhanced services that asra was able to provide from the day formalities were concluded. We are confident that asra will deliver a great service for our residents for many years to come.”

Matt Cooney, Group Chief Executive at asra, said: “We are delighted to welcome Camberwell Housing Society and its tenants into our fold. Our geography, culture and track record of investment in tenants’ homes and our work with older people proved attractive to Camberwell’s board and residents and we look forward to working with them.

“The due diligence process identified many mutual benefits. As we continue our ambitious development activity and also our ongoing discussions with Paragon, asra has a great 2017 to look forward to.”
